Kanami Kitabayashi
Freelance Translator/Designer/Illustrator
Born in USA, 1986
2005 - 2010 Studied Fine Art and Graphic Design at University of Nevada Las Vegas
A bilingual Japanese American born in California, but raised in Las Vegas all of her life (unfortunately). She began to draw at a very young age and naturally became interested with manga, anime, and video games. She began studying fine art until she changed over to focus on graphic design midway through college to rethink about her future. In 2010, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Art, focusing in graphic design. Soon after, she realized she must move far, far away to find a career she was actually interested in and came to settle down in Japan.
Currently, she is a freelance translator and illustrator living in Kanagawa, Japan. She has worked in the Japanese anime industry for a period of time as a Production Assistant in Tokyo. Afterwards, she moved onto the Japanese e-publishing industry as an in-house translator/editor to translate Japanese manga. She has spent a short time as a manga artist's assistant afterwards, but she is now translating manga, anime, special effect films, drama, documentaries, and video games on a freelance basis. She has also began translating, lettering, and illustrating for Webtoons recently as well.
